Now with a complete recording done our next assignment is to create a jingle for Perth UHI. We have moved from the Eastlake 1 studios to make way for new recording bands and were to put to work in Eastlake 3 downstairs. Little work was accomplished. We didn't have an idea of what to do in the first hour and a half and when we finally arrived there weren't many people there. We shall complete it next week. The way the class is scheduled is going to change however. Instead of the whole year coming in at once and trying to find space to practice we are going to create two groups which will have the year split in two. This will enable the bands to find room to practice.
Graded Unit
There were one to one classes with Andrew. I arrived and wanted to make sure I had a full understanding of what was required. I wrote down all the sections I shall include and all the material internal and external. I want to ensure that I achieve an A as I will need this for Napier. We looked through old portfolio's and talked about redeeming qualities and not so. I came away with confidence in the year assignment and shall be making progress on it straight away.
Music History
With our topics chosen for the essay we have individual group lectures. Being Hip Hop I was on the end of the list and resulted in being at 3.00p.m. I arrived with an essay plan to show Marlisa and talked about potential essay questions. It is a 2000 word assignment which is due 4th February. I have made good progress on it.
1st Study
There were tests for the people who didn't sit them to week before. I had so I went outside and waited until Steve had finished. When everyone was back in the class we talked about the results and what generally was needing to be improved on. I need to work on my diminished and Augmented chords and I am mixing them up. Cameron's class was making sure our reading pieces were coming on and we worked through diminution and Augmentation.
DAW
Instead of working through our projects on Cubase we started the lesson with work on our websites. I talked about myself as a composer and what I plan to do. I took pictures and mentioned who I am working with. We then progressed onto our projects with Cubase and Reason. I am working on a piece with double bass and sax. I am creating my own drum patterns with the editor in Reason. As well this using the automation..
Band Work
We arrived with the outlook on beginning 'Tighten up' by The Black Keys but our singer was off and our session musicians forgot which songs by the band. Instead we tightened up on 'Sir Duke' and 'The chain' which went well. It was nice playing just as a band without a singer as we could 'tighten up' and hear every mistake and improve. We are getting better and our plan for next week is to record the session and to start 'sweet child of mine', 'Tighten up' and another song which I forget. I'l find out...............
